Carey Price made 34 saves and held off a 5-on-3 power play in the closing minutes to lift the Montreal Canadiens past the Philadelphia Flyers 1-0 last night, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer. The loss was the sixth straight for Philly. Andrei Kostitsyn scored a power-play goal in the second period to give the Canadiens all the offense they would need. In other NHL action:

  • The Carolina Hurricanes scored two goals in the third period to nip the Florida Panthers 5-4, their 13th straight home win over Florida. Ray Whitney scored the winner with 4:21 left.
  • Rick DiPietro just missed a shutout, but he still picked the win as the New York Islanders beat the Atlanta Thrashers 4-1. DiPietro had nine saves and an assist.
