Kings Send Bibby to Atlanta

Posted Feb 17, 08 5:16 AM CST in Sports

(Newser) – Mike Bibby is headed to Atlanta as part of a trade that will give the Sacramento Kings four expiring contracts and a second-round draft pick, and allow the Hawks to (so they hope) make a run at the playoffs, reports the Sacramento Bee. "I had some good times here in Sacramento," said the veteran point guard, who had expected a trade.

The Hawks will send over Anthony Johnson, Tyronn Lue, Lorenzen Wright and Shelden Williams, whose small and expiring contracts will give the Kings the salary-cap space they would need to pick up some emerging free agents. Atlanta, currently just shy of a playoff spot, will be banking on Bibby's clutch shooting and nine years of experience to push them over the top.
