An alleged kilt-wearing criminal and a taker in the ice bucket challenge make appearances in the weirdest crime stories of the week:

  • Guy Charged With Using His Kilt ... to Shoplift: A toy helicopter, audio car charger, and computer mouse are just a few of the small items that an Oregon man is accused of stashing in his kilt (yes, kilt) during a visit to a Fry's Electronics store. The kilt was reportedly "modified" specifically for the shoplifting spree.

  • Cops Arrest Fugitive Thanks to Ice Bucket Challenge Video: Jesean Morris has entered the grand tradition of people making ill-advised Facebook posts. The 20-year-old was arrested in Omaha after proudly posting a video of himself participating in the ice bucket challenge. He got turned in by a tipster who recognized the house in the video and knew he was wanted for violating parole on assault charges.
  • Kid Writes Story About Killing a Dinosaur, Gets Arrested: A high school freshman in South Carolina wrote a story for a class assignment about his neighbor's pet dinosaur. Problem is, he also wrote that he killed that dinosaur using a gun—and teachers were so alarmed they called the cops. The teen was arrested and suspended from school for three days.
  • Cops: Man, 85, Tried to Sneak Pot to Jailed Grandson: Talk about a bad grandpa—or a good one, depending on your perspective. Police in Ohio arrested an 85-year-old man and charged him with trying to smuggle pot into the a correctional institution while on a visit to see his grandson. He now faces seven years behind bars himself.
  • Miley's Homeless VMA Date Wanted by the Cops: Turns out the young homeless man who accompanied Miley Cyrus to the MTV Video Music Awards had a warrant out for his arrest in Oregon. Jesse Helt, 22, was arrested on charges of criminal mischief, criminal trespass, and burglary in 2010. He has since turned himself in.
