Derby Bettors Use Their Heads

Posted May 4, 07 11:41 AM CDT in US Sports Arts & Living

(Newser) – Curlin is the early favorite for tomorrow's Kentucky Derby, but another thoroughbred—a human—is also the focus of some hot wagering. She's a well-known horse breeder and owner, with an inherited affinity for the sport of kings. Place your bets: What color hat will Queen Elizabeth II wear? And will it have a feather?

The queen and her signature headgear will fit right in at the Derby, a haberdasher's paradise. A pink hat like the one she wore in Virginia this week is an 8-to-1 proposition, according to online bookmaker Bodog. Blue and white/silver are the co-favorites at 5 to 2. There is no line on a bejeweled crown.
