Grim news from the South: Police in Mississippi say a South Carolina man has confessed to murdering his five young children, who were found in individual garbage bags buried near a highway in Alabama. Timothy Ray Jones, who had primary custody of the three boys and two girls ages 1 to 8, was arrested at a traffic stop in Mississippi Saturday night, and police say they found meth ingredients and synthetic marijuana in his car, along with "what appeared to be bleach, muriatic acid, blood, and possible body fluids," the State reports. Police say the 32-year-old led them to the bodies.

The children were reported missing last week when their mother, who is divorced from Jones, called authorities after being unable to contact him. Authorities plan to bring him back to Lexington County, SC, where they believe the children were killed, to face charges. "I'm a father of two, and I can't imagine what goes through a man's head when he does this. It was a horrible, horrible crime," the sheriff of Smith County, Miss., tells the Clarion-Ledger. "As tragic as it is, and it's terribly tragic, at least it didn't last long. We had to get some closure for their mother." (More Timothy Ray Jones stories.)
