Wings Win Chippy One Over Avs
Detroit Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock, left, argues with Colorado Avalanche assistant coach Tony Granato after a fight between Red Wings right winger Aaron Downey and Avalanche right winger Ian Laperriere in the third period of the Red Wings' 4-0 victory in an NHL hockey game in Denver on Monday,...   (Associated Press)

Detroit shook off the loss of all-world defenseman and captain Nicklas Lidstrom to win easily at Colorado, 4-0. Lidstrom, the team's leader in assists and minutes played, was injured on a big hit that required him to be helped off the ice, writes the Detroit News. Fellow defenseman Chris Chelios picked up the slack with his second goal of the season.

Wings leading scorer Henrik Zetterberg also scored, twice, to secure his team's sweep of the Avs this season. The game featured the bad blood that has flowed between the teams over the years, particularly after Colorado's Ian Laperriere crunched Lidstrom. Red Wings goalie Chris Osgood didn't have to work terribly hard, making 18 saves for his 47th career shutout. (More hockey stories.)
