NRA Backs Gun Sales To Terror Suspects

Posted May 4, 07 10:53 PM CDT in Politics US

(Newser) – The NRA is urging the Bush administration to oppose a bill that bans suspected terrorists from buying guns. In a letter to AG Alberto Gonzales, the group's executive director objects that the bill, introduced in the Senate last week, "would allow arbitrary denial of Second Amendment rights based on mere 'suspicions' of a terrorist threat."

One of several gun control measures proposed in the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings, the bill would give the attorney general the discretion to block gun sales, licenses or permits  to people on terror watch lists. The Justice department supports the proposal.
