(Newser) – Kevin Garnett’s return to the Celtics’ lineup was ruined by a superb offensive effort from the Nuggets. Denver shot over 51 percent from the field against Boston, the league’s best defensive team. Allen Iverson scored 28 points to go along with seven rebounds and nine assists in Denver’s 124-118 win, according to the Associated Press.

Garnett had missed the Celtics’ previous nine games, as well as the All-Star Game, because of a strained abdominal muscle. He only played 21 minutes and was held to just four points and eight rebounds; he also had four turnovers. Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo each passed the 20-point mark for Boston. Carmelo Anthony led Denver with 29 points.
