Barack Sweeps Hawaii

Posted Feb 20, 08 3:03 AM CST in Politics

(Newser) – Barack Obama made it a clean sweep yesterday when he nailed a big victory in Hawaii on top of Wisconsin, tallying ten wins in a row, AP reports. Voters turned out in record numbers for the state's Democratic caucuses and early returns show that more than three-quarters of them favored native son Obama. The victories deal fresh blows to Hillary Clinton's White House hopes.

The Hawaiian Democratic Party had printed out stacks of extra ballots and registration forms to deal with the surge of interest. People waiting to vote said that the tight national race between the Democratic contenders had inspired them to turn out as the state's delegates could prove crucial. "Obama talks like a Hawaii guy and people really get that. He brings all his aloha spirit across the nation," said one man sporting an Obama cap.
