Megachurch Pastor May Sue Rappers

Megachurch pastor TD Jakes says rappers Young Jeezy and Kendrick Lamar violated God's law—and US law, too. The rappers' remix of "Holy Ghost" opens with a sample of a Jakes speech from last year, the New York Daily News reports, and Jakes says in a Facebook post he neither consented to nor knew about the remix. "We are taking the necessary legal actions to stop the unauthorized use of TD Jakes' intellectual property," the post reads. But one legal expert tells the Daily News the rappers probably have "a strong fair use case," meaning they're likely allowed to use the material without permission because they're making "a point that amounts to commentary." Specifically, he says, they're using the Jakes sermon "to make a comment on the role of religion in [people's] consciousness." (More Young Jeezy stories.)
