Spurs Player's Selfie: 'lol #Holocaust'
   (Twitter)

San Antonio Spurs guard Danny Green visited Berlin's Holocaust Memorial yesterday, snapped a selfie, and provoked no small amount of outrage with this caption: "You know I had to do it one time lol #Holocaust." Green is in Berlin for an exhibition game against Alba Berlin, but the buzz at the moment is around his off-court antics. Green quickly rewrote the caption to read, "A lot of history here, more than you could imagine...very sad/tragic things happened #holocaust #berlin," and followed up with an apology for "the insensitivity of my post"—which he's since deleted—but the damage was done.

He continued: "I have great respect n understanding for this country's history n wanted to continue chronicling my experience in Berlin." In spite of Green scoring nine points in the game, the Spurs ultimately lost at the buzzer 94-93, reports the Guardian. Meanwhile, Dime Magazine neatly sums up much of the response on social media and beyond: "It's never OK to write, 'lol' 'Holocaust.'" (Meanwhile, Austria is turning Hitler's home into a Holocaust museum.)
