McGrady, Yao Help Rockets Squash Hornets

Posted Feb 22, 08 11:45 PM CST in Sports

(Newser) – Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming put on a show tonight in leading the Houston Rockets to their 11th straight win with a 100-80 whipping of the New Orleans Hornets, reports the Associated Press. McGrady had 34 points, while Yao had 28 points and 14 rebounds in an easy win over the Hornets, who had won five in a row.

The 7'6" Yao did a number on 7-foot Tyson Chandler, as he constantly scored in the paint on Chandler. The Hornets' center, who was averaging 12 points and 12.4 rebounds coming in, was held to nine points and five rebounds. The game was tight until the second quarter when Houston used a 14-1 run to go up 45-29.
