Alfredsson Keeps Sens On Top

Posted Feb 23, 08 6:54 PM CST in Sports

(Newser) – Daniel Alfredsson made sure the Ottawa Senators stayed atop the Eastern Conference by scoring with 3.2 seconds left in overtime in a 4-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins today, reports the Associated Press. The Senators, who have led the conference since winning 13 of their first 14 games, were in danger of falling behind New Jersey and Pittsburgh.

Alfredsson would have no part of it, however. He scored on the final rush of OT, but only after sticking with the puck after Pittsburgh goalie Ty Conklin blocked his initial shot. The winning shot came after the Senators came back from a 3-0 deficit. Dany Heatley scored his second goal with about 6 minutes left to complete the comeback.
