Juno Scores at Spirit Awards

Posted Feb 23, 08 10:36 PM CST in Arts & Living

(Newser) – Little-indy-that-could Juno won big at today’s Independent Spirit Awards, netting best actress for its star Ellen Page, best first script for writer Diablo Cody, and best feature film, the Los Angeles Times reports. The awards show, which honors only films made for less than $20 million, has drawn casually clad celebs to a seaside ceremony in Santa Monica for 20 years.

Other winners included best actor for Philip Seymour Hoffman and best screenplay for Tamara Jenkins, both for The Savages; best supporting actress for Cate Blanchett, in I’m Not There, and an award for its director, Todd Haynes, both of whom invoked the memory of co-star Heath Ledger; and best directing and cinematography for Julian Schnabel’s The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.
