Russia Steps Up Support for Serbia

Posted Feb 25, 08 4:46 AM CST in World

(Newser) – Unrest and uncertainty marked the one-week anniversary of Kosovo's independence as ethnic Serbs within Kosovo and around the world continued to protest, and Serbian ally Russia deployed top officials to Belgrade to meet with Serbian leaders, BBC reports. Serb protesters in northern Kosovo brandished posters of Vladimir Putin and a sign reading: "Russia Help!"

Russia continued its clash with the US and Western Europe over Kosovo, accusing the US of "flagrant cynicism" and "contempt for the law." A Serbian minister also called the US the "major culprit for all troubles" in Kosovo, and leaders called on the US to revoke its recognition of the "fake state."
