Bill Cosby's wife emerged from the shadows today to defend her husband against rape accusations, but doesn't deny them exactly—she just says the allegations by more than 15 women don't jibe with the man she knows, CBS News reports. "He is a kind man, a generous man, a funny man," Camille Cosby says in a statement. "A different man has been portrayed in the media over the last two months. It is the portrait of a man I do not know." She accuses media organizations of failing to vet "my husband's accusers before stories are published or aired. An accusation is published, and immediately goes viral." She also compares the Cosby accusations to Rolling Stone's story about an alleged gang-rape at the University of Virginia.

"That story was heartbreaking, but ultimately appears to be proved untrue," she writes. "Many in the media were quick to link that story to stories about my husband—until that story unwound." She doesn't want to "be in the position of attacking a victim," she adds, but asks, "who is the victim?" Cosby recently praised Camille, his wife for over 50 years, in an interview with the New York Post, saying she was holding up well. "Love and the strength of womanhood," he says. "And, you could reverse it, the strength of womanhood and love." (Read about another model who says Cosby drugged her, or friends of "UVa Jackie" who say she appeared traumatized after her date.)
