Clintonites Deny Pushing Photo

(Newser) – Hillary Clinton's campaign denies circulating a 2006 photo of Barack Obama wearing traditional African clothing and a turban, even as the Obama campaign blames its rival, calling the incident “shameful, offensive fear-mongering,” the Chicago Tribune reports. The Drudge Report ran the image this morning, saying it had been pushed by Clintonites; the Obama camp says they were trying to make him look un-American.

Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson said the campaign “didn’t sanction it," and doesn't "know anything about it,” Talking Points Memo reports. "This is part of a disturbing pattern," Obama’s campaign manager said, pointing to earlier attacks by Clinton supporters and saying the strategy “diminishes respect for America in the world.”
