Bush Predicts GOP Victory

Posted Feb 26, 08 3:15 AM CST in Politics    Most Covered

(newser) – President Bush insisted yesterday to the Republican Governors Association that Americans will elect another Republican to fill his shoes in November, AP reports. "And I don't want the next Republican president to be lonely," Bush said. "And that's why we got to take the House, retake the Senate, and make sure our states are governed by Republican governors."

The president said he's "confident" of his prediction because "I understand the mentality of the American people."  When Democrats took control of the House and Senate in 2006, Democratic governors also claimed a 28-22 majority after 12 years dominated by GOP state leaders. Eleven governorships are up for grabs this year. Fundraising for GOP gubernatorial campaigns outstripped Democrats by $9 million last year.
