(Newser) – Though the Nuggets put up more resistance than the Pistons may have expected, Detroit still had enough horsepower to win the 98-83 contest, the Free Press reports. Three Pistons scored 20 points and every starter hit double digits to make Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony's combined 51 points appear moot. Things did come down to the wire, though.

The Nuggets could have tied it up when Chauncey Billups fouled JR Smith on a three-point attempt with 6.5 seconds remaining, but Smith hit only one  bucket. Billups then got three free chances of his own, and nailed them all. "We always feel pretty decent about what's going to happen if we keep it close down the stretch," said the point guard.
