(NEWSER) - Hot pink lipstick is “younger, hipper, and definitely a little more edgy” than red, says a makeup artist to the stars. How best to copy the look of Kim Kardashian, Leighton Meester, and other pink-pouted celebs? Makeup artist Mally Roncal offers USA Today some tips:

• A matte look might be too intense—tone it down with a more flattering sheer lipstick or gloss.

Lauren Luke launched her cosmetics career through down-to-earth vids

(NEWSER) - A 27-year-old single mom is bringing cosmetics to the masses—via YouTube. Lauren Luke's down-to-earth how-to videos boast more than 250,000 subscribers, the New York Times reports. In the 20 months since launching her channel, the British taxi dispatcher-turned-entrepreneur has partnered with Sephora to launch her own makeup line and snagged a book deal. “Her appeal is that she is the Everywoman,” says one fashion exec. $63,000 worth goes missing in London ... but duplicates exist

(NEWSER) - On a ritzy street in London earlier this week, thieves snatched about $63,000 worth of high-end fashion wear from the Marc Jacobs Spring 2012 collection. The stolen items include clothing, shoes, and handbags that had been showcased on a New York runway back in September, reports the Wall Street Journal . The label has duplicates, and the theft should not affect delivery orders to retail stores. But it had to cancel an upcoming "press day" in London, where fashion editors and journalists could view the collection up close. More»

German designer makes eco-friendly clothes from drink

(NEWSER) - For the fashion industry, cows provide more than just leather. Combining her knowledge of biochemistry and clothing design, a German designer has begun making clothes from a textile that’s made of pure milk, the AP reports. It feels like silk, is as washable as cotton, and is good for the environment—and on top of that, it’s great for those with sensitive skin. Anke Domaske aims to start mass-producing the material, called Qmilch, next year. 'Designer lipstick' a growing trend: NYT

(NEWSER) - Sure, you can still buy lipstick for a few bucks at the local drugstore—but why would you? The New York Times reports today on the growing trend of designer lipstick, one tube of which will cost you up to $60. “I heard and read repeatedly in many of the magazines I go through and devour that his red is the red to be wearing,” said one woman who waited in a long line at Bergdorf Goodman recently to meet designer Tom Ford, whose new cosmetics line is being sold there. She went home with Scarlet Rouge for a whopping $48, before tax. More»
