McCain Steps Over Gauntlet Huckabee Throws Down

Posted Feb 26, 08 4:30 PM CST in Politics

(Newser) – Mike Huckabee wants to debate John McCain, he told a sparsely attended press conference today. Campaign finance laws may make the presumptive nominee “go completely dark between virtually now and the nomination convention,” said Huckabee, who described himself as “disappointed” at the lack of GOP debates, MSNBC reports.

“Any type of format would be acceptable to us and any location would be acceptable to us,” Huckabee said in issuing the challenge. McCain claimed not to know Huckabee was interested in going mano-a-mano but said he'd “certainly consider that proposal.” Huckabee’s handlers laughed off the response, saying they’d made his interest abundantly clear.
