Get excited, Twin Peaks fans: Special Agent Dale Cooper is officially back. "You look like you need a damn fine cup of coffee," said Kyle MacLachlan as he walked onstage at the Television Critics Association's Showtime panel yesterday. Showtime President David Nevins then confirmed that MacLachlan "will be leading" the network's Twin Peaks revival, according to the Hollywood Reporter. "And there'll be more cast coming on as we roll through," he added, later confirming to reporters that more of the original cast is indeed expected to join.

MacLachlan has been hinting at his return for months, such as in this October tweet: "Better fire up that percolator and find my black suit :-) #Twinpeaks." But not much else is known about the nine-episode limited series, which will premiere next year. "I think it's something they've been toying with for a long time," Nevins said of creators David Lynch and Mark Frost. "I think in David's mind, 25 years seemed like the magic number." (The Guardian reminds us that Laura Palmer told Cooper in the Red Room, "I'll see you again in 25 years.") As MacLachlan left, he told the audience, "I'm very excited to return to the strange world of Twin Peaks. May the forest be with you." (More Twin Peaks stories.)
