Bloomberg: I'm Not Running

Posted Feb 27, 08 11:12 PM CST in Politics

(Newser) – New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he will not run for president but will remain active in the campaign and try to "steer the national conversation away from partisanship and toward unity." In an op-ed piece in today's New York Times, Bloomberg puts to rest the long-running speculation on whether he will launch an independent bid for the presidency.

"I listened carefully to those who encouraged me to run, but I am not—and will not be—a candidate for president," wrote the billionaire, who still has two years on his term as mayor. Bloomberg, who offered no specifics on his decision, said he would support a candidate who takes an "independent, nonpartisan approach."
