Two shootout goals left Colorado with another extra-time win in a 3-1-1 road trip, this time 3-2 in Vancouver. The Avalanche forced overtime with a Joe Sakic goal with 15 seconds to go, and Sakic and Marek Svatos got past Roberto Luongo in the shootout, the Rocky Mountain News reports. Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • Florida had a 3-2 lead with 70 seconds left in regulation, but Toronto's Mats Sundin powered one in to tie the game and force a shootout that would give the Maple Leafs the game, 4-3.
  • Chicago's backup goalie Patrick Lalime recorded 32 saves for his first shutout this season, giving the Blackhawks a much-needed 1-0 victory over Phoenix.
