He was brought in for police questioning and endured dozens of punches to the face, but when Aleksander Tomaszewski filed a complaint against the detectives in the case, he ran into a big problem: Surveillance video of his holding cell reveals that the 33-year-old beat himself up, reports OregonLive. When confronted with the video, Tomaszewski admitted that he hoped concocting the beating would get him released. Instead, he earned extra charges of initiating a false report and attempted coercion. The Eugene Register-Guard actually counted up the number of times the bruised Tomaszewski belted himself in the face: 45. (More weird crimes stories.)
