US to Deport Captured 'Pumpkin' Fugitive

(Newser) – A murder suspect caught in a Georgia apartment complex after a months-long manhunt will be promptly deported to New Zealand, BBC reports. Nai Yin Xue, accused of killing his wife in New Zealand and abandoning his toddler daughter—dubbed 'Pumpkin'—in an Australia train station, has been hiding in the US since September. Because Xue's visa has expired, he can be sent back to New Zealand without extradition proceedings, CNN reports.

In New Zealand, Xue will face murder charges in the death of his wife, whose body was found in the trunk of a car outside the couple's Auckland home in September. He was caught by members of the Chinese-American community who restrained him and used his trousers to tie his ankles together. Since none of the six spoke English, they handed police a news report about him and pointed to his picture, the police chief said.
