John Boehner appeared on CNN's State of the Union today, and the main subjects were Israel and Iran. Highlights:

  • On the Iran nuclear deal being negotiated: "We've got a regime that's never quite kept their word about anything. I just don't understand why we would sign an agreement with a group of people who have no intention of keeping their word."
  • If there is no agreement by Tuesday's deadline: "The sanctions [against Iran] are going to come and they are going to come quickly."

  • Back to the Netanyahu visit: "I think the animosity exhibited by this administration toward the prime minister of Israel is reprehensible. And I think the pressure they have put on him over the past four or five years frankly pushed him to the point where he had to speak up. I don't blame him at all for speaking up."
  • On his own trip to Israel this week, which is not a "victory lap": "My visit there was planned months ago, before the prime minister came here and before his re-election, so it's not quite what I would describe as a 'victory lap.'"
