Lopez Lifts Stanford Past Washington St.

Posted Mar 1, 08 9:03 PM CST in Sports

(Newser) – No. 8 Stanford's Brook Lopez took it upon himself today to make sure Thursday's Pac-10 battle with No. 4 UCLA means something. The 7-foot sophomore scored 19 of his 25 points in the second half, pulled down six rebounds and had four blocks as the Cardinal came back to beat No. 22 Washington State 60-53, reports the Associated Press.

The Cougars (22-7, 10-7) led 33-22 at halftime, but Stanford (24-4, 13-3) went on a 6-1 run to start the second half to climb back into the contest. The win was the sixth in seven games for the Cardinal and set up a showdown that could mean the conference title in Los Angeles. Derrick Low led the Cougars with 14 points, but all of them came in the first half.
