An annual ranking of the most literate cities in the US has a new champion: Minneapolis. It bumped Washington, DC, which has reigned supreme for the last four years, to No. 2. The survey by Central Connecticut State University factors in data from bookstores, online and physical libraries, newspaper circulations, and elsewhere to compile its 77-city list, explains USA Today. The top 10 for 2014:

  1. Minneapolis
  2. Washington, DC
  3. Seattle
  4. St. Paul, Minn.
  5. Atlanta
  6. Pittsburgh
  7. Denver
  8. San Francisco
  9. Boston
  10. St. Louis, Missouri
