The notorious Hells Angels motorcycle gang once plotted to kill Mick Jagger, according to a BBC documentary to air tomorrow. Gang members sought revenge after Jagger decided never again to use them as security when a fan was beaten to death by bikers during the Stones' infamous 1969 Altamont concert. "The Hells Angels were so angered by Jagger's treatment of them that they decided to kill him," the documentary claims.

Bikers used a boat to get to Jagger at his Long Island vacation home, but were thrown overboard when they encountered rough weather, according to an interview with a former FBI agent. Jagger was apparently not informed of the one-time assassination attempt. Altamont was itself the subject of the chilling documentary, Gimme Shelter; one biker was charged but acquitted in the death of the fan. (More Rolling Stones stories.)
