Winners of five straight, the Boston Celtics continued their domination of the Eastern Conference today with a win over the Atlanta Hawks, 98-88. Paul Pierce accounted for 30 of the Celtics points, while Kevin Garnett  added 20 points and 16 boards, reports the AP.  Sam Cassell, recently waived by the LA Clippers, is expected to join the Celtics roster tomorrow night.

Atlanta led early in the second half, but a 13-point run by Boston proved too much to overcome. Josh Smith contributed 22 points for Atlanta, while newly-acquired Mike Bibby added 14 and nine assists. The Hawks currently sit one game out of the playoffs. Boston heads to Detroit Wednesday in what could be the preview of an Eastern Conference finals matchup. (More NBA stories.)
