Two sisters who got stranded in the snow in remote Michigan managed to survive on Girl Scout cookies and cheese puffs for 13 days. Lee Wright, 56, and Leslie Roy, 52, were rescued yesterday after a police helicopter caught a glimmer of light reflecting off their windshield, reports mlive.com. Both were weak but otherwise OK. Wright is from Oklahoma and Roy from Nebraska, and they were traveling by SUV in the Upper Peninsula when it got stuck in snow on April 11 in an area without cellphone service. Searchers had one clue: One of the sisters had inquired on Facebook before they left about visiting Tahquamenon Falls, and they were found in the general area.

"It was sheer joy," Michigan State Police Detective Sgt. Jeff Marker tells AP. "It was almost disbelief that it was finally happening." He says the women were wearing layers of clothes and had rationed their food. Luckily, they had bought eight boxes of the cookies from a relative before the trip, he tells UpperMichigansSource.com. A bag of cheese puffs also helped. The women told authorities that a bear checked out their vehicle two nights in a row. They were taken to a local hospital, reunited with relatives, and released. (Another amazing rescue, of a lost autistic boy, took place in Australia.)
