(Newser) – Top-ranked UConn avenged its only loss of the season tonight, dominating C. Vivian Stringer's Rutgers squad, 66-46, to clinch the Big East regular season title. The Huskies, now 29-1, were led by their trio of stars: Tina Charles with 15 points, 17 rebounds; Renee Montgomery, 21 points; and Maya Moore, 19 points. Essence Carson led Rutgers with 15, reports the Hartford Courant.

UConn's Montgomery had 12 of her points during a 22-8 run to close out the game and was praised by her coach. "No disrespect to the Rutgers players but (Montgomery) was the best guard on the floor tonight," said Huskies coach Geno Auriemma, who earned his 650th career win. Moore broke UConn's freshman scoring record with a first-half jumper.
