Retired Generals Mount Antiwar Media Blitz

(Newser) – Three retired generals are the faces of an ad campaign launched yesterday warning moderate Republican legislators that if they follow President Bush's policies in Iraq, they shouldn't expect to be re-elected. "It's past time for change," retired Maj. Gen. John Batiste said in an interview. "Our strategy in Iraq today is more of the same: a slow grind to nowhere."

Other ads feature Paul Eaton and 2004 Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark. The group behind them, VoteVets.org, is targeting four Senators and nine House members; many have criticized Bush, and all oppose setting a troop-withdrawal deadline. A spokesman for Rep. Phil English of Pennsylvania said, "These ads are more about cheap Democratic political stunts than about solving the actual problem."
