Kucinich Fights Off Challenge for His Seat

Posted Mar 5, 08 5:54 AM CST in Politics

(Newser) – Supporters of Dennis Kucinich had reason to worry about last night's primary for the congressional seat he's held for 12 years: with the Democratic gadfly away on the presidential campaign trail for so long, four rivals had built up a formidable challenge. But Kucinich weathered the onslaught to win the nomination, the Plain Dealer reports.

Cleveland councilman Joe Cimperman led the charge for new blood, with Cleveland's mayor backing him up and an arsenal of barbs about the time Kucinich has spent away from Congress on his long-shot presidential bid. Kucinich held a comfortable lead over Cimperman, while three other challengers trailed far behind.
