Ahead of his arraignment today in Chicago, Dennis Hastert has hired a high-profile lawyer who represented public officials in scandals including Watergate, Whitewater, and Iran-Contra. Thomas Green of Sidley Austin—the same firm that once employed Barack and Michelle Obama—will stand next to Hastert as he formally hears the charges against him and enters a plea, NBC News reports. The arraignment will be Hastert's first public appearance since he was indicted on charges of structuring cash withdrawals and lying to the FBI. The charges unveiled a sex scandal. Hastert will likely be released on a recognizance bond, while the identity of "Individual A," a former student of Hastert at the center of the case, will probably remain a secret.
