(Newser) – Several things stood out when Donald Trump announced his presidential bidliberal glee, conservative scorn, escalators, paid supporters—but what many in the Latino community heard was his proposal to build a "great, great wall" on the US-Mexico border to block Mexican drugs, crime, and rapists. Outrage ensued, Trump-shaped pinatas were born, Trump declared Latinos' enduring love for Trump, and now the AP reports that Univision has announced that it's breaking up with the Miss USA pageant and its parent organization. The network is citing "his recent, insulting remarks about Mexican immigrants" as the reason for cutting all ties with Trump and the Miss Universe Organization of which he is part owner, reports Variety, including the Miss USA pageant that was set to air July 12.

Trump, for his part, not-so-gently reminded the broadcaster that it's messing with a five-year "signed @MissUniverse contract because I exposed the terrible trade deals that the U.S. makes with Mexico," and that "I love Mexico but not the unfair trade deals that the US so stupidly makes with them." Still, the AP notes a bit more fallout: Miss USA presenter Roselyn Sanchez also jumped ship today, and Colombian singer J Balvin yesterday canceled an appearance on the show. One arena in which Trump will get continued Univision coverage is the presidential race: The news division "will continue to provide comprehensive coverage of all candidates, including Mr. Trump, to ensure our audience continues to have access to all points of view," the network says.
