A misguided cab ride and a missing comma play a role in the weirdest crime stories of the week:

  • Guy's 300-Mile Cab Ride to See Fiancee Doesn't End Well: This story might've just as easily fallen under the "heartwarming/romantic" umbrella as the "weird crimes" one. Police say 35-year-old NYC resident John Williams Jr. took a 300-mile cab ride across Pennsylvania with his kids to surprise his fiancee. He made it to his destination, but things unraveled when he got hit with the unsurprisingly hefty fare.
  • Missing Comma Saves Woman From Ticket: An appeals court has agreed with an Ohio woman who said her parking citation should be tossed because the village law was missing a single piece of punctuation. Andrea Cammelleri says she shouldn't have been issued a citation in 2014 based on the wording of the law enacted by the village of West Jefferson. Here's how the comma comes into play.

  • Lovesick Teen Went to Extremes to Get Mom's Help: Some unspecified problem apparently occurred between an Alabama teen and his girlfriend, and where the story goes from there is bizarre. Limestone County cops say 18-year-old Haden Smith texted his mother last week telling her she needed to make contact with the girlfriend's parents and fix whatever had gone wrong with the relationship, or he'd carry out a grisly threat ... and he did.
  • Burglars Couldn't Just Leave Body They Found Alone: In what a sheriff's spokesman is calling "a bizarre story with a lot of moving pieces," two men have been accused of finding a Washington woman's body when they burglarized her home, then hiding the body and assuming her identity. Those "moving pieces" that law enforcement had to piece together (and which the sheriff's spokesman also calls "creepy") involved a bale of hay, illegal credit card purchases, and a horse.
  • Cops: Teen Leads Gang in Walmart Plunder: A 17-year-old was arrested in Macon, Ga., for allegedly leading a group of about 50 teens in a planned middle-of-the-night Walmart rampage on Sunday, just to see how much damage they could cause in one minute. Hint: It was quite a lot.
