Pro Golfer Kills Hawk, Faces Charges

Posted Mar 6, 08 9:53 PM CST in Sports

(Newser) – PGA golfer Tripp Isenhour is getting attention for something other than his golf game today. Police charged Isenhour with cruelty to animals and the killing of a migratory bird, the AP reports. The 17-year pro—who has two wins on the minor-league equivalent Nationwide Tour—is alleged to have deliberately killed a hawk with a golf shot while taping a TV show in December.

Court documents say Isenhour grew upset that the hawk was making noise during the taping and began hitting balls toward it. Several shots later, after the hawk moved to within less than 100 yards, Isenhour struck it in the head and killed it. He faces a maximum penalty of 14 months in jail and $1,500 in fines.
