Paul Concedes, More or Less

Posted Mar 7, 08 5:19 PM CST in Politics

(Newser) – John McCain’s last standing competitor for the Republican presidential nomination is stepping down—in a way. Texas congressman Ron Paul released a video today saying victory wasn’t possible “in the conventional sense,” but that supporters should still pull his lever. “We must remember elections are short-term efforts,” he proclaimed, “revolutions are long-term projects,” the Boston Globe reports.

The libertarian was the only GOP candidate opposed to the Iraq war, but only managed to break 10% in a handful of primary or caucus contests. But while he says his campaign “will soon wind down,” the Chicago Tribune points out, the fundraising juggernaut made a pitch for more donations—and said he’ll still travel wherever “the enthusiasm for liberty exists.”
