(Newser) – San Jose, the NHL's best road team, did it again tonight, winning its sixth straight away from home and eighth consecutive overall, 3-2, before a sellout crowd in Chicago, reports AP. Patrick Marleau's second-period goal proved to be the difference for the Sharks, who now trail Dallas by one point in the Pacific Division and having played two fewer games.

San Jose's Joe Thornton, the league leader in assists, had two more helpers tonight and earned the game's No. 1 star honor. Jonathan Cheechoo, who has heated up recently after struggling for much of the year, had his 22nd goal and seventh in 10 games. Chicago honored two of its all-time greatest players, Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita, before the game.
