It’s four straight Big South tournament titles for Winthrop after they dominated UNC Asheville today, 66-48. Michael Jenkins was lights-out for the Eagles, scoring a championship game record 33 points and hitting 6 of 9 from beyond the arc, reports the AP.  Winthrop shared the regular season title with UNC Asheville, but secured the all-important home-court advantage throughout their tournament.

Despite playing against the tallest guy in college basketball, UNC Asheville’s 7-foot-7 Kenny George, Winthrop still managed to control the game inside and out.  The Eagles began the second half with a 22-10 run that quieted a standing-room-only crowd in Asheville. The win sends Winthrop to the NCAA tournament for the eighth time in 10 years.  (More NCAA stories.)
