(Newser) – The Avalanche waited until the third period to start it up against Dallas, tying the score and sending in the game-winner within a three-minute stretch—then adding an insurance goal as time ran out. Peter Forsberg collected his first two assists of the season in the 3-1 victory, the Denver Post reports. Elsewhere in the league:

St. Louis put up a vigorous fight against Vancouver, trying not to drop a sixth straight road game, but the Canucks pulled ahead late in the third period to net a 4-2 win. It was Brad Isbister's fifth goal of the season that slipped past Manny Legace, whose teammates put him in near-constant power-play danger.
