Heath's Dad: We'll 'Take Care' of His Daughter

Actor's will pre-dated relationship with Michelle Williams, child's birth

(Newser) – The father of late actor Heath Ledger vowed that his son's daughter—and her mother, actress Michelle Williams—will be "taken care of" even though they aren't in Ledger's will, which dates from before their relationship and the 2005 birth of their daughter, Matilda Rose. Ledger's 2003 will left everything to his parents and sister, the Daily News reported.

"Matilda is our absolute priority and Michelle is part of our family," Kim Ledger told People. "They will be taken care of; that's how Heath would want it to be." Ledger and Williams met while filming Brokeback Mountain. At the time the will was filed, Ledger had $145,000 worth of assets in New York, including a Prius and furniture. He died this year of a drug overdose.

But three years later, "my life—our life—has kind of repaired itself," she says. "It's not a perfectly operating system—there are holes and dips and electrical storms—but the basics are intact." Even so, she admits Ledger's death has affected almost everything she does: "It’s changed how I see the world and how I interact on a daily basis. It’s changed the parent I am. It’s changed the friend I am. It’s changed the kind of work that I really want to do. It’s become the lens through which I see life—that it’s all impermanent." More»

(NEWSER) - Michelle Williams is moving on from Heath Ledger's death—and it makes her a little sad. Promoting her latest film Blue Valentine on Nightline , Williams recalled the first year without him: “In a strange way, I miss that year, because all those possibilities that existed then are gone. It didn't seem unlikely to me that he could walk through a door or could appear behind a bush. It was a year of very magical thinking, and in some ways I'm sad to be moving further and further away from it.” More»

(NEWSER) - The sad irony of Heath Ledger’s overdose is that he hated taking the sleeping pills that killed him. “He was an extremely active person who didn't sleep much,” rapper and childhood friend N’FA tells the Sun . “Lots of people take sleeping things. I just remember he didn't like them.” N’FA (short for No Fixed Abode) premiered a Ledger-directed music video at a film festival last year, and is preparing to release the single. More»

(NEWSER) - A music video, one of a few directed by Heath Ledger for little-known artists he liked, made its online debut yesterday. Australian rapper N'fa Forster-Jones, a childhood friend of the late actor's, posted the video along with a behind-the-scenes look at the project, the AP reports. "Every day I count my blessings that I got to have him direct this piece of art," says Forster-Jones, who showed the video at the Rome Film Festival. More»
