Venezuelan Diplomats to Return to Colombia

(Newser) – Venezuela will return its diplomats to Colombia after last week’s border crisis was largely resolved at a regional summit. Ecuadorean diplomats say it will take longer for them to return, reports the BBC. Colombian forces killed an important rebel leader inside Ecuador last week, provoking a bristling regional standoff.

Both Ecuador and Venezuela sent troops to their borders and their rhetoric grew increasingly militant until Friday's summit. The Organization of American States issued a 20-point statement that declared that Colombia’s troops would not cross its neighbors' borders again. Venezuela called the summit a "victory for peace and sovereignty which demonstrated the importance of Latin American unity."
