Cops: Would-Be Do-Gooder Kidnapped a Guy
David Pope   (Dansbury Police Department)

Oh, but the line between charity and kidnapping is a fine one. A man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly taking a 77-year-old man home and forcing him to eat meat because he thought the victim was homeless, NBC Connecticut reports. Police say David Pope noticed the victim pushing a cart of bottles and cans down the street, took him by the arm, and guided him back to his house in Danbury.

Once inside, the Danbury News Times reports, Pope's Staffordshire terrier bit the victim hard enough to break the skin. Ignoring the dog attack, Pope cut up some meat and fed it to the victim. Police tell the News Times the victim ate Pope's food because he feared he would be killed or, at the very least, bitten again. The victim was eventually able to sneak out of the house and return to his own home, where he called 911. Pope, who allegedly refused to put his dog away and appeared to be drunk, told officers he just wanted to feed the man, who he assumed was homeless, NBC reports. Pope was arrested and charged with kidnapping, reckless endangerment, and more. (More weird crimes stories.)
