San Diego Topples Zags in WCC

2nd straight upset sends Toreros to NCAA tourney

Share

(Newser) – The San Diego Toreros continued cutting a swath through the WCC elites last night, with a breathtaking upset of Gonzaga following on the heels of Sunday's overtime defeat of St. Mary's. It only took regulation time for the Toreros to outplay the No. 22 Bulldogs 69-62 and secure a place in the NCAA Tournament, ESPN reports.

USD head coach Bill Grier nabbed the WCC title in his first season on the job, following 16 years of working with Gonzaga coach Mark Few. But inside knowledge wouldn't have helped the Toreros if it weren't for four players scoring in the double digits, including De'Jon Jackson with 16 and Gyno Pomare with 14 points and 10 boards.
