Another Pol's Wife Stands by Her Man

Posted Mar 11, 08 1:14 PM CDT in Arts & Living Politics

(Newser) – Silda Wall Spitzer, the Harvard-educated lawyer who stood grimly alongside her husband during his somewhat perplexing apology yesterday, joins the ranks of political wives who suffer publicly the sex scandals of their disgraced mates, ABC writes. She follows in the footsteps of Larry Craig's wife, Suzanne; Jim McGreevey's then-wife, Dana: and, of course, Hillary Clinton, an exception in that she didn't share the podium with Bill at his nadir.

"It's interesting that someone who is so arrogant, and who has essentially made a spectacle of himself and his wife, would then go the extra mile to require her to be there with him," a psychologist tells ABC, adding that he wishes she'd refused to be used for damage control. Dana McGreevy says Spitzer should resign immediately: "By not doing so he's only prolonging the pain and anguish and humiliation."
