Fourteen-year-old De Je Brewer says she's blessed after surviving two gunshot wounds sustained while trying to protect her 10-month-old nephew this week in Los Angeles, NBC Los Angeles reports. According to KABC, the straight-A student was in town for a relative's funeral. She and her nephew were in a Ford Explorer parked in a relative's driveway when another car pulled up behind them and opened fire. NBC reports one bullet hit Brewer in the arm and another went through her back, nearly hitting a lung. "I didn't know what to do, and then I felt something hit my arm. I touched it and it was blood," Brewer tells KABC. "So I tried to cover the baby, and I laid over him." Brewer's aunt believes the shooting was random, and police have no suspects.
