Brown Outlines Post-Blair Era

Posted May 13, 07 5:00 PM CDT in World

(Newser) – Gordon Brown is about to put some distance between himself and his former boss with a series of proposals laying out his vision, including giving Parliament the right to approve war powers, reports The Observer. With Blair pilloried for pusuing a profoundly unpopualr war almost single-handedly from Number 10, Brown is declaring his independence.

His blueprint also involves building 100,000 eco-friendly homes, and making doctors keep weekend hours. The proposals are aimed at upstaging Tory frontrunner David Cameron on key issues. Tories still lead in polls, at 38%, but Labour has climbed three points to 34%.
